Laine was born in Montana, USA to a loving family, however after his father failed to return home, the GATEWAY(Laine's father's workplace) entered the residence and requested the young boy acompany them back to the facility, taking him in as a test subject. years later, at the age of 21, Laine would discover that the portals that lead in and out of the GATEWAY seem to react to him in some way, appearing at random around the laboratory whenever no scientist was present.
eventually he attempts to go through one. However after a conflict with three other test subjects, two of them end up accidentally accompanying him as he escapes to the outside world, being locked out of the GATEWAY after the portal closes suddenly.

Personality:
Absolute himbo, this man is a golden retriever except if a golden retriever was lost in the middle of the north american wilderness trying to eat the grass. Laine is a huge sweetheart who would never hurt anyone intentionally, however his obliviousness to other people's experiences often ends up causing conflict by accident.

Extra:
Laine's right arm is a prosthetic, he refuses to speak of why he has it.
Laine is canonically lvl 2 Autistic. it's quite important to his story.
Laine is very quick to catch feelings, and ends up in a sort of love triangle(square technically) turned polycule with the other three subjects.
